International Workshop

Changes of the Greenland Cryosphere

Katuaq, Nuuk, Greenland, August 25-27, 2009

The CGC workshop intends to bring together scientists working on observing and modelling current and future changes of the Greenland ice sheet, glaciers, sea-ice and permafrost.

The workshop will focus on the current rapid changes, as observed with satellites, aircraft and in-situ networks, and bring together scientists from different disciplines (remote sensing, glaciology, geodesy, geophysics and environmental sciences) for in-depth discussions on the nature and magnitude of the Greenland ice sheet, sea ice and permafrost changes, and the underlying causes and future projections of change.

The CGC workshop is a "precursor event" to the 2009 UN COP15 climate summit in Copenhagen, sponsored by the Technical University of Denmark..

The CGC workshop is part of the 2009 "Nuuk Climate Days", and is held in parallel with the international "FreshNor" Symposium on the freshening of the Nordic Seas, and a series of talks on the effects of climate changes on the Greenland environment and society, arranged in cooperation with the Danish Meteorological Institute and the Greenland Nature Institute.
